Law School Application. Online Law Degree, For admission in Law one would always require to get through a qualifying exam. The Law School Application is that exam which is an aptitude/admission test which is known by different names in different nations. In countries like USA, Canada and Australia its well known by the name Law School Admission Test(LSAT) while in India its knows the Common Law Admission Test(CLAT). We would mainly be talking about LSAT in this text.
This test is conducted and managed by Law School Admission Council (LSAC) for aspiring Law Candidates. LSAC comprises of more than 200 law schools majorly of the USA. It has its headquarters in Newtown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. It was brought into existence by Educational Testing Service (ETS) which was only of at that time in 1947, University of Virginia, Harvard, Yale University, Columbia, and the University of Pennsylvania. By bringing in LSAT the body has enhanced the Law Admission process particularly in the USA.
LSAT has been in practice as a Law School Application exam since 1948 and has seen major changes since then particularly the major changes of 1990. The test consists of 6 sections out of which 4 are scored while the other two (writing section and experimenting section) are not scored. A candidate must spend $136(US) and $141(Canada) in order to apply for the Law School Application.
The test constitutes of 4 sections, beginning with:
1: Logical Reasoning
Popularly known as “LR”, this section is a major part of all admission tests held worldwide. LSAT contains the sub-section under this section named as “Arguments”. A sentence is given which is followed by either an argument or some facts the applicant must answer questions regarding its assumption, omissions or the errors in the arguments or choosing the most justifiable argument that follow.
2: Reading Comprehension
In the current pattern the test contains 4 passages each of 400-500 words relating to fields of law, physical sciences, arts, humanities and social sciences. The following questions are based on the text which may include finding facts from the text, drawing inferences, guessing the author’s main point, etc.
3: Analytical Reasoning
This section is informally known as “Logic Games” section. It includes 4 tests which generally involve grouping, matching, ordering, etc. Candidate may be presented a question in the form as:
“There are five people who might attend this morning’s meeting”
“What is the maximum number of people who could be absent?”
4: Section which is not scored:
The test contains one experimental section. Performance in this section is generally not marked but a candidate is only asked to tell which of the sections are experimental. To reduce the impact of examinee’s stamina drying out on the experimental results, this section is always one of the first three sections of any given test.
The most important thing is how one should prepare for the Law School Application.
LSAC suggests that students go through the practice tests before test day in order to become familiar with the types of questions that are asked. LSAC offers one free test that can be downloaded from their public portal. For best results, LSAC suggests taking practice tests and being discipline on the actual timings. By being in that situation they will be able to manage the time they are allotted and could attempt all questions to crack into the Law School Application.
