Education reform advocate and humanitarian Lowell Milken has given the UCLA School of Law a $10-million present, the biggest single present in the school’s history and capstone of the school’s five-year, $100-million fund raising initiative. The money will determine the Lowell Milken Institute for Business Law and Policy, which UCLA officers announced was the results of a three-year effort by law school leaders and Milken to make business and law initiatives that concentrate on leading edge research, problem-solving and hands-on abilities coaching. “In line with the goals of the Campaign for UCLA Law school, Lowell’s openhandedness is going to enable us to initiate a selection of curricular breakthroughs, further urgent research and supply monetary support for scholars, who will become our community’s future front runners in business law and policy,” UCLA Law College Dean Rachel Moran expounded in a press release.

The present also propels the school past its target of raising $100 million in 5 years, taking the total amount to $103 million, law school spokesman Lauri Gavel expounded.

The campaign — the biggest in the law school’s history — was originally launched in 2008 with the aim of augmenting funding for scholarship awards, inducting faculty, expanding educational offerings and supporting institutes targeted on law and government policy. “At a point when our nation’s great schools are under heavy monetary pressure and restraints, it is incumbent on those among us who benefited seriously from our academic experiences in the UC system to help in supporting the superb work of these universities,” Milken expounded in an announcement. Milken, who earned his law degree from UCLA in 1973, is the chairperson and founder of the Milken Family Foundation, a personal foundation targeted on education. He is also the founder of Information Universe, a Singapore-based company targeted on infancy education.
